2008 News and Events Revised: May 18, 2008

January 1, 2008: The men and women of the SAPD welcome Chief Anthony Holloway to the City of
Somerville and the Somerville Police Department.
January 25, 2008: The Hopkinton Police has once again asked for the assistance of the Somerville
Auxiliary Police for the running of the 2008 Boston Marathon in April. For those of you that haven't had the
opportunity to work this event, don't miss the opportunity! Please contact Chief Carvalho via phone or in
person to sign up for the event.
May 1, 2008: Congratulations to Officers Edward Detmer and Sean Collier on their promotions to Sergeant.
April 30, 2008: A belated welcome aboard to our newest members: Vanessa Lombardo, Robert Collette,
Chris Collette, Brian Rogers and Thathyanno Desa.
May 28, 2008: As announced at the Annual Awards Night, the SAPD Appreciation cruise will be held on
Saturday June 28th. It leaves from the Boston Long Wharf, however Department members will be meeting in
Somerville. Each member is allowed one guest. If you have not already signed up, Please immediately
contact Lt. Biddiscombe to get your name put on the list.
June 15th, 2008: Congrats to Officer David Dean on his promotion to Sergeant!
October 1st: All Armed SAPD members are advised that firearms requalifications for the Department is
scheduled for October 14th. The time as TBA. All Armed members are required to attend. Any updates will
be posted as they become available. Unless it changes, it will take place at the usual location in Harvard.
September 25th: Congratulation to Sergeant Scott Breaker on his promotion to Lieutenant!
October 3rd: SAPD Bike Unit Commander Sgt. Kevin Medeiros and the members of the Department wish to
thank Deputy Chief Michael Cabral and the SPD for the recent donation of 3 mountain bicycles to the
Unit. The new additions brings the fleet of bikes up to 5. This will allow greater flexibility and better ability
to patrol a greater area of Somerville and its parks and neighborhoods.
